welcome to dart!
DART is a non-profit animal welfare organization for the Mountains & Valleys, founded in 2006. Comprised of a group of committed, proactive volunteers, we are dedicated to the mission of reducing the excessive overpopulation of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens on Lookout Mountain, Sand Mountain and surrounding areas. As there is no county or private animal shelter or other animal welfare agency to service this broad region, our programs are vital to improving the existing conditions.

There is no local or federal funding to support these programs and we rely entirely on private donations, corporate grants and local fundraising projects. Please support our efforts!

Our Featured Pets
Forrest and Gump
These handsome dogs were discovered having been dropped off at a dead end street. Their owner apparently had at least some sense of concern as an open bag of inexpensive dog food was left dumped in the road. It was a good thing they were found by one of our dedicated DART volunteers who willingly fostered them temporarily. The bad thing, at their initial vet check-up both tested positive for Heartworms, a potentially deadly condition. Heartworms are very affordable and simple to prevent yet very intensive and expensive to treat.
Sadly, given the current economic conditions, we are finding more and more situations of pet owners not being able to provide preventive or even basic care and having to relinquish their animals. The resulting vet expenses for just these two dogs are over
$600 each. Please help support our efforts to save special pets like these by contributing to this cause.
Forrest
Forrest has the most distinctive red merle markings. Though his muzzle appears grey, it is really light tan. He's about 3 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccinations and weighs about 65 lbs. He's been treated for heartworms and now has a clean bill of health and ready to find his new forever home.
Gump
Gump has the build and gentle temperament of a typical lab. He's about 3 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and a bit overweight for the moment, at around 90 lbs. He's been treated for heartworms and now has a clean bill of health and ready to find his new forever home.
